The Return of Winter!

The groomers did an excellent job yesterday turning over the surface after the warm up, and with the temps and precipitation being more winter oriented, the conditions are bouncing back quickly. It will be a great time at the mountain this weekend, so make sure you get your tickets now and save a few extra bucks or if your a season pass holder take advantage of those buddy passes and bring a friend with you to show them how great Ragged is.

Mother Nature, You're Needed in the Principals Office...

Yes, hi Mother Nature. Thanks for coming down to see me today. Do you know why I've asked you to come to my office? No. Well see you're really starting to mess with people's heads. Yesterday was February 21st and I saw people in shorts and t-shirts. Heck, even I had to undo the top button on my collared shirt to let some air in. I know you are looking forward to spring time and spring break, sitting on those beaches drinking fruiting cocktails, relaxing in the sun soaking up the vitamin D. BUT, we want to ski... Don't get me wrong, everyone has been enjoying the soft snow, warm sun, and good times over the past couple of days, but it's still technically winter out there. It should feel and look like it. Okay. Let's make a compromise, bring back the cold temps and snow for just one more month - that's it, just one more month - and we'll forget this absurd warm up that you've put us through these past few days. Okay... Thanks Mother Nature. See, I told them you were reasonable.

Yup, the warm up has gotten us wondering what's up. It's been a fun couple of days basking in the sun and skiing/riding on soft snow. Now that the temps are dropping back down to some level of normalcy we've got some work to do to get the surface back in shape. Ragged will be opening on time and with trails groomed into decent shape, Spear will be a delayed opening while the groomers finish up reworking the surface over there, and the Terrain Parks will be closed today for maintenance.

Coming up this weekend:

On Saturday, The Flying Goose Brewery and Angry Orchard will be hosting another Tap Takeover up in the Stone Hearth Bar. The Goose will be bringing along their brand new limited release, Citrus Soul Patch: a fruity take on their classic Rookie American-style Lager. If hops aren't really your style, Angry Orchard will be bringing along their brand new Rose to try. All the while, Chuck N' John will be crankin' out the tunes!

Bring On the Weekend

Happy Saturday, everyone! We've got an action-packed weekend ahead of us that you'll totally want to be a part of.

Kicking things off, Ski East will be back in town for another race on Main Street. This talented high school race group out of Massachusetts will be competing in a combined race, meaning one giant slalom run and one slalom run, so definitely stop by the race course to cheer these guys and girls on.

Just a reminder, that any uphill spectators must check in at event registration. Upon doing so, they will let you know which route to take in order to get to the bottom of the race course without otherwise interfering with downhill traffic. Spectators must stay outside of all fencing or ropes in place at the race, and they must obey and follow all instructions from race officials. As a reminder, dogs are not allowed on the hill. To review our full spectator policy, click here.

Also going on today, over on Wild Side and Wild Ride, the Terrain Park Crew will be holding a seminar from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm covering terrain park etiquette. Have you ever wanted to ski or ride through the terrain park to watch other riders do tricks? Do you have a question regarding a specific feature or line through the park? This is the perfect opportunity for you! The guys from the Terrain Park are super excited to help you guys learn how to ride the park to the best of your ability.

A Nice Monday, and a good week ahead!

Update 1:00 pm: The Spear Mountain Quad is currently on wind hold.

Another week starts off with a decent looking forecast ahead of us. Today looks to be a great day on the slopes with temps in the upper 20's and clearing skies. Conditions on the mountain have been tremendous and we did receive a bit of snow last night, followed by a bit of rain. But the surface was turned over by our groomers early this morning, so the conditions should still be in great shape. Look for some variable conditions as you head out there.

Looking ahead, everyone should keep doing their snow dances and help this system on Wednesday dump loads of snow all our our mountain. Let's see how much we can get that #DanburySnowBelt to kick in!

Check out our two featured events this month: Treat your loved one to a wonderful time on the slopes on Valentine's Day complete with a couple's dinner in our Birches Mountain Restaurant. Dinner for two is $99 and you can add tickets for only $14 a piece. Then on the 17th of February, join us for a roaring good time at our first ever Mardi Gras Party featuring The Freeway Revival Band, tons of Creole inspired cuisine and a Sam Adams Tap Takeover. Find out more information including complete menus and pricing on our Featured Event's Page.

Snow on the Horizon!

Update: Flying Yankee will be closed today from 9am to 12pm for race training.

While today's forecast may call for sunny skies with temperatures in the mid 20's, we're more interested in the coming days. Tomorrow, a storm system will be moving through that will hopefully deliver some of the fluffy stuff, but we're really excited for the start of next week. Sunday into Monday, a second system will blow through that is already forecast to bring a couple of fresh inches of powder! Then, later next week, a third system is slated to roll through. As always, be sure to check the blog for updates on storm systems and new snowfall totals!

Without your participation, our Advanced All Mountain Skiing and Riding, Terrain Park, and Alpine Racing clinics would not have been a success.

Looking ahead, this week is already shaping up to be a good one, with mostly clear skies today and temperatures in the upper 20's to lower 30's. We're keeping our eyes on that storm system that's coming later this week with excitement, so be sure to check the blog for updates including any new snow!

SKI NH Weekend Continues

The fun continues today as we celebrate Ski NH Weekend. Conditions remain excellent across the mountain, and if you were not able to hit Birches yesterday afternoon, make sure to get some turns in on it today. It's one of the best!

Today, in honor of Ski NH Weekend, we will be hosting three different intro clinics from 11 am to 2 pm. These clinics are free and open to the public. They will focus on Intro to Terrain Parks, Intro to Alpine Racing, and Advanced All Mountain Skiing and Snowboarding. Clinics will last roughly 15 minutes, and are first come first serve, there is no sign-up needed. Please head to the following meeting places for each clinic:

  • Intro To Terrain Parks - Top of Wanna Be Wild
  • Intro to Alpine Racing - Top of the NASTAR Cours on Village Green
  • Advanced All Mountain Skiing and Snowboarding - Learning Center Line Up Area

Please look for an orange or blue flutter flag and a meeting place sign at each location and wait there until for a staff member to begin the clinic.

Trail Update: Flying Yankee will be closed to public for a race today.

Birches Opens Today!(1)

Fan favorite Birches will open today for skiing and riding. This is one of our favorite trails, as a black diamond, narrow double fall line trail, it is classic New England trail design. Go have a blast on this amazing trail, along with Upper Exhibition and Town Meeting.

Today marks the start of the Ski NH Weekend, and we're kicking things off with a USSA Open Scored Slalom on Showboat. This race will feature some of the states top U16 athletes, bashing the gates down the steep pitch of Showboat. A great spectators sport from either the Spear Mountain Quad, or the designated spectators area. If you wish to hike up to see the race, please check in at Race Registration on the 2nd floor of the Meeting House Lodge. There you will receive instruction on how to get to the spectators area, and our uphill spectator policy. NO DOGS are allowed on hill, in the base area, or hiking. Because of the race, Showboat will be closed for the majority of the day.

The Pinnacle Plunge Tubing Park will be open today with two sessions, 11 am to 1 pm and 1 pm to 3 pm. Please see Guest Services to purchase a 2 hr tubing session ticket.

The fun continues indoors with some NH Inspired foods from our chef. Check out the 603 Coffee Cake Porter Beef Stew being served in the Harvest Cafe, or have a nice sit down lunch in the Birches Mountain Restaurant and try the NH Chorizo Jambalaya. Plus in the Stone Hearth Bar we will be serving NH Maple Syrup Glazed Chicken Wings to compliment the Woodstock Inn Brewery Tap Takeover from 2 pm to 5 pm. Apres will kick in to full swing with White Steer playing from 3 pm to 6 pm.

We can't wait to celebrate skiing and riding in our wonderful state with all of you today! We'll see you at the mountain.

Tuesday Forecast

UPDATE - We will be closing today at noon due to inclimate weather.

Today is going to be a wet one. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30's with freezing rain early before making the change over to rain in the afternoon. A little rain won't keep us down, though, as our team is working feverishly to get Town Meeting, Birches, and Upper Exhibition open.

After the day is over, why not warm up and dry off by the fire up in the Stone Hearth Bar? Pick up a cold beer, like our Ragged Mountain Red or Cardigan Kolsch, and maybe some hot chili or cheesy nachos to refuel after a long day of skiing or riding.

Snow In The Forecast!

After all those warm temperatures, nothing excites us more than seeing snow on the forecast, and that's just what they're calling for tomorrow! Today will be cloudy with some snow flurries, but tonight, another storm system moves in and should help us to recharge following that January Thaw. We're helping Mother Nature along, too. Snowmaking continues on Wild Side and Wild Ride today to help our Terrain Park crew put together a top notch terrain park. While you're riding up the 6-Pack, you may even notice that there are some snow cannons in place on Exhibition. It won't be long now before our team shifts their focus to one of our favorite trails. Flying Yankee will also be closed for race training throughout the day, so be certain to check out some other fan favorites, like Lower Ridge or Showboat!

Getting Tubular!

The Pinnacle Plunge Tubing Park will open today! We're starting with 4 lanes of over 700 feet of rolling, speed inducing, fun! Check out our Pinnacle Plunge page for more information including session times and pricing.

The weather looks fantastic for today, with temps in the mid to upper teens and mostly sunny. Spend your day cruising around Ragged and Spear peaks taking in the views and enjoying the skiing and riding. When you need to recharge, head on up to the Birches Mountain Restaurant for lunch. Today, try a Hot Bowl like the fan favorite Pho Noodle Bowl, a Miso broth base loaded with fresh veggies and your choice of meat. A healthy and hearty way to warm up and refuel for the rest of the afternoon. When your done, check out the increased selection of Flying Goose beers. Brewed just minutes down the road in New London, Flying Goose has a wide selection of tasty beers. New on tap is the Jabberwocky Brown and Oatmeal Stout!

We're Bringing It Back

It appears that Mother Nature has come to her senses and decided that in January it should be cold! Thank you, Mother!

That means, we're bringing back the snow. The guns have been turned back on in the park as we build some big piles so the Terrain Park Crew can build a killer park for everyone to enjoy. Both Wild Ride and Wild Side will remain open, but the features have been removed and snowmaking efforts will be on going for the next couple of days. The team has also kicked the guns back on over in the Pinnacle Plunge Tubing Park and we hope to have that open soon. Once efforts in the terrain park and tubing park have been completed the team will move efforts back over to Exhibition and Birches.

Make sure you stop into either Stone Hearth as we feature one of our favorite breweries around, the Flying Goose! Adding to our standard line up of the Ragged Mountain Red and Long Brother's IPA will be the amazing Jabberwocky Brown and the Oatmeal Stout, great beers to sit by the fire and warm up with! Grab a great meal today in the Birches Mountain Restaurant which will be open 11 am to 7 pm. Try the Poutine, it's fantastic! Plus, both locations will have Sunday NFL Divisional Round Playoff Games playing.

Have a great day out there!

Go Home Mother Nature... You're Drunk!

Well, it's been an interesting past 24 hours. Mother Nature thought she would play some Jimmy Buffet, and while sipping some margaritas she obviously turned up the heat... way to much.

Fortunately our team makes SNOW, and when they make it they make a lot of it. The team got to work early and have been able to quickly get Ragged Peak back in shape and it will be opening this morning. Love to see those four groomers in action, including our new Bison-X.

There is a bit more work to do to get Barnyard and Spear open, but the team has already moved efforts to those two areas. Keep posted to our Slope Report as we continue to update.

Looking ahead, snowmaking will resume this evening and Mother Nature looks like she will be returning to her normal winter self and might grace us with some natural snow.

January Thaw

It happens every year, the January thaw. Today will climb up into the 50's and looks to be a little bit wet. The good news is with the amount of snow we've received early this season, and the amount that the snowmakers have been able to make conditions will hold up just fine. Today's snow will be spring like, with some variable conditions and wet snow. We have closed the natural terrain for the day to help preserve some of our natural snow fall.

Looking ahead to next week, the temps will drop back down and we should be able to fire up the guns again to finish making snow on Exhibition, Birches, and Town Meeting. And there might even be a little assistance from good ol' Mother Nature too!

Happy Thursday!

It's been a great week so far. The warmer temps have soften the snow and the skiing and riding has been tremendous. We certainly hope you've been able to skip a day of work or school and join us. Whether you're carving deep trenches on the groomers, popping off of the natural moguls on Upper Crewcut or Sweepstakes, or are dropping into one of the glades, you're sure to have a big smile on your face by the time you back in the lift line.

Snowmaking has continued through the night both on Ragged Peak, and on the Pinnacle Plunge Tubing Park which, weather permitting, will open this weekend. Look for further updates on tubing session times and pricing on our tubing page. This has us really excited for a great MLK weekend, and we look forward to seeing you up here enjoying the skiing, riding, & tubing!

Snowmaking Continues(1)

The Mountain Ops team has resumed snowmaking efforts over the past couple of days on Upper and Lower Exhibition, Birches, and Town Meeting. They're also continuing to make snow over on the Pinnacle Plunge Snow Tubing Park, with the goal of having that open soon. Conditions are still great from top to bottom and from the groomers to the trees.

With MLK Weekend this weekend we are sure to have some great things happening at the Mountain, including a visit from our friends at the Allagash Brewery from Portland ME. Make sure to stop into the Stone Hearth Bar this Saturday to grab a mug or pint of Allagash's great beers and possibly score some swag from them.

If you haven't purchased your tickets yet for MLK Weekend, make sure to do that soon. Purchasing tickets online here, will help you save some money. The earlier you buy, the more you save!
