Terry Gregg - Champion for Children!

Congratulations to Terry Gregg, Learning Center Director here at Ragged Mountain Resort, for being nominated by and awarded the 2018 Champion for Children Award by the Newfound School District. His recognition is a testament to his drive and passion for teaching today’s youth the fundamentals of skiing and snowboarding. His passion for fun is on display each and every day of the week when he and his team of instructors welcome children from multiple different school districts to Ragged. Skiing and Snowboarding for Terry is more than just sliding on snow, it’s a way of life and a chance to smile, laugh, and enjoy the outdoors, something he exemplifies while teaching children.

The Champion for Children Award was established by the New Hampshire School Administrator's Association. It is intended to recognize New Hampshire citizens who have given distinguished public service to benefit children. You can learn more about the Champion for Children Award and the 2018 state recipients HERE

Bebe Wood, the 2018 Ski NH Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

As she sat, enjoying her Tuckerman’s Pale Ale, Bebe Wood had little clue as to why she was asked to attend the annual Ski New Hampshire conference. But to her surprise she was there to be honored with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Her surprise was shared by all as her loud gasp, upon learning that she was this year’s recipient, was followed by cheers of a crowd who in some way, shape, or form, had all been touched by Bebe and her dedication to sharing our wonderful sport with as many people as possible.

As Ryan Schramm explained in his presentation of the award “Bebe is a true Ski Bum”, having spent her entire life enjoying the sport. Growing up in Marblehead, MA, Bebe and her siblings taught themselves how to ski at a nearby golf course. By the late 30’s she and her sister were making trips to Cranmore, NH and within the next decade Bebe would become a pioneer of the growing counter culture of the “ski bum”. In 1950 Bebe, living in Sun Valley, Idaho was featured as one of the models for a skiing article that ran in a February issue of Life Magazine.

In the early 60’s she and her husband moved to Bristol, NH where they introduced their children to the joys of skiing. In 1965, when Ragged Mountain Resort opened, Bebe was a natural fit as the Director of the Junior Program designed to introduce local school children to the sport. Bebe served as the head of the Courtesy Patrol through the new millennium until her retirement. Today she is still an active member of the Ragged Mountain Resort community as a host on the weekends. Skiers and Riders from all ages and all areas are greeted warmly with a smile and sometimes a hug as they enter the Elmwood Lodge.

A wealth of knowledge both of the mountain and of the industry, Bebe enjoys her role as the mountain’s ambassador of the newly formed Bebe Wood Free Learn to Ski & Ride Program. Named in her honor as a testament to her desire to introduce new folks to this wonderful sport, the Bebe Wood Program has introduced over 2000 people to skiing and riding, completely free of charge, in its first two years of operation.

We are so happy to congratulate Bebe on her award, and couldn’t think of a more fitting person to be recognized as the 2018 Ski NH Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient.

So… What Do You Guys Do During The Summer?

This is a pretty common question we get asked each year, and while there is a lot less activity at the ski area during the summer months, there is still quite a lot that happens.

Catered Events: From weddings to reunions to anniversary parties, we host all kinds of formal catered events. Our team from the winter time shifts focus from group sales and everyday food and beverage service to high level catered events that range from lobster bakes and pig roasts, to 5 course meals. With three different wedding sites, including the summit of Ragged Peak which overlooks the White Mountains and Cardigan Mountain, and our on-site lodging, we host several weekend long Wedding Parties.

Training: The off season is when our year round teams work to ensure we are all trained to handle any kind of issue that might arise. Just this past week we welcomed our good friend Peter Koch, from Memic, a work place safety company we partner with, to work on various rigings and safety techniques when evacuating a staff member from a lift tower.

Events: Hosting events is just one more thing we do over the course of the summer. This year we are very excited to play host to the 2018 USATF 50K Trail National Championships with the good folks from 603 Endurance. The Ragged 75 Stage Race and 50K takes runners up and over the SRKG (Sunapee, Ragged, Kearsarge Greenway) Trail. Starting August 10th, Runners choose from either a 3 day stage race along the entire 75 mile look, or a 50K on Sunday August 12th. Upon completion, a big party is held right here at the base of Ragged Mountain Resort.

Help Us Fight Cancer!

Cancer Sucks.

As most people can attest, that statement rings true all too often. Our team here at Ragged has made it a point to help out with those who are struggling with this horrible disease by supporting the Pedaling for Payson event in Hopkinton, NH on September 15th.

Pedaling for Payson is a bicycle ride (both road and mountain) that raises funds for the Payson Cancer Center at the Concord Hospital. Funds raised go to support the Pedaling for Hope Endowment Fund. This fund largely underwrites the Center's Nurse Navigator Program, which serves to coordinate both the medical treatment and community outreach for the most vulnerable cancer patients.

We would like to extend an invitation to all of our season pass holders and guests to join the Ragged Mountain team this year. Raise money and ride with us as we look to support those dealing with cancer. Register HERE.

PLUS, join us on June 7th for a pre-ride event at the Red River Theater in Concord, NH. This event supports the Pedaling For Payson Ride with a screening of ‘Reveal the Path’, a genre-defying adventure film that contemplates what it means to live an inspired life using the bicycle as a mechanism to explore, dream and discover. Tickets are $10 and include the film, beer tasting from New Hampshire Distributors and Lithermans Limited Brewery, tasty treats from Vibes Gourmet Burgers and O Steaks & Seafood, trivia contests and door prizes.  Learn more HERE.

Closed For The Season

Once again, thank you all for such a great season. It was a great one!

We are now closed for season. As a friendly reminder, there is no uphill skiing, hiking, or sledding allowed while the mountain is closed. There are several pieces of heavy machinery on hill at all times of the day, unstable surface, and other equipment that can cause hazardous conditions. Please stay off the hill.

Have a great summer and we'll see you next year!

Happy Easter, & Thanks For A Great Season!

Well, we've come to the end of another great season. We've shared some great skiing and snowboarding this winter, we've also seen some amazingly cold temps and absurdly warm temps (70 degrees in Feb... come on). We've had major storms that dropped tons of snow and opened up our best terrain. We had great events like yesterday's Pond Skim (thanks to everyone who came out). Great races hosted by the RMST, and great park events from our Terrain Parks Crew. There was good food and some really fun Tap Takeovers in the Stone Hearth. But most importantly, we want to thank you for joining us this season and helping to make Ragged Mountain one of the most enjoyable places to be. It's because of you that our community is so strong. And finally, congrats to all the Bebe Wood Graduates; welcome to our family!

Today looks to be the perfect ending for the 2017/18 season. Temps will be in the high 40's and it will be mostly sunny. As it is Easter, the Ski Patrol lent a hand to our friend the Easter Bunny and have hidden eggs around the ski area. Make sure while you are out on the mountain today you keep an eye out for eggs filled with sweet treats. Happy Easter everyone.

One final reminder that today is the last day to purchase your 2018/19 MISSION: AFFORDABLE Season Pass at only $259. Tomorrow the price increases to $289.

We'll see you on the mountain!

March Has Brought the Snow!!

35" over the past week has easily made for the best skiing and riding so far this season. Almost all of our natural and gladed terrain is open and the snow in the woods is deep!

Today looks like it could add a bit more snow, with some light flurries in the mix. It will be cloudy with temps in the low 30's, which will help keep the snow around. The lower section of the terrain park will be closed today for the team to continue work on the mini pipe for Back In The Day which will be held on Sunday the 18th.

If you were not able to get to the mountain yesterday, make plans now to get here for this weekend. MISSION: AFFORDABLE season passes are now on sale, and there are still ticket deals online for Saturday and Sunday. Click HERE to buy now.

Sunday Fun-day

Today is going to be a fun day! With the conditions holding after the fresh snowfall from this past week the skiing and riding is fantastic. Today's weather will remain in the low 30's and cloudy, which looks to be the boarder of yet another system which will make it's way in sometime late Monday hopefully bringing us another substantial snow fall. It's been a while since we've kicked up those dancing shoes, but it looks like if we give it another go March could be a snowy month!

Enjoy the mountain today!

Winter Storm Quinn has been good so far, dropping up to 12" by 8:00 this morning, and it's not done yet! Calm Before the Storm

Happy Tuesday, all! It's shaping up to be yet another amazing day here at the resort. With temperatures in the upper 30's to low 40's and partly cloudy skies, we couldn't ask for better spring conditions. Winter isn't through yet, however, as just on the horizon, another storm is forecast to come through tomorrow and drop a couple inches of the fluffy stuff.

And that isn't all. The extended forecast is also showing another couple of systems that have the potential to bring some snow to the northeast. At this point in the year, most people are thinking spring, but not us -- we're thinking snow! How about you?

Get your ticket for tomorrow's storm now and save. We'll see you on the slopes!

Mother Nature, You're Needed in the Principals Office...

Yes, hi Mother Nature. Thanks for coming down to see me today. Do you know why I've asked you to come to my office? No. Well see you're really starting to mess with people's heads. Yesterday was February 21st and I saw people in shorts and t-shirts. Heck, even I had to undo the top button on my collared shirt to let some air in. I know you are looking forward to spring time and spring break, sitting on those beaches drinking fruiting cocktails, relaxing in the sun soaking up the vitamin D. BUT, we want to ski... Don't get me wrong, everyone has been enjoying the soft snow, warm sun, and good times over the past couple of days, but it's still technically winter out there. It should feel and look like it. Okay. Let's make a compromise, bring back the cold temps and snow for just one more month - that's it, just one more month - and we'll forget this absurd warm up that you've put us through these past few days. Okay... Thanks Mother Nature. See, I told them you were reasonable.

Yup, the warm up has gotten us wondering what's up. It's been a fun couple of days basking in the sun and skiing/riding on soft snow. Now that the temps are dropping back down to some level of normalcy we've got some work to do to get the surface back in shape. Ragged will be opening on time and with trails groomed into decent shape, Spear will be a delayed opening while the groomers finish up reworking the surface over there, and the Terrain Parks will be closed today for maintenance.

Coming up this weekend:

On Saturday, The Flying Goose Brewery and Angry Orchard will be hosting another Tap Takeover up in the Stone Hearth Bar. The Goose will be bringing along their brand new limited release, Citrus Soul Patch: a fruity take on their classic Rookie American-style Lager.
