ABOUT RAGGED MOUNTAIN RESORT:
Located in Danbury, New Hampshire just 99 miles from downtown Boston, Ragged Mountain Resort is situated on 2,100 acres in the beautiful White Mountains. Ragged Mountain has 57 named ski trails, miles of hiking trails on-site.
DESCRIPTION: In his book, The History of the Town of Andover, John R. Eastman describes Ragged Mountain as a “truly ragged pile of ledge and boulder, crag and cliff, hill and ravine.” An east-west running, detached mountain, Ragged Mountain Resort contains three prominent peaks separated by shallow notches. In addition to the excellent terrain on the western peak known as Spear Mountain, the saddle between it and Ragged Mountain provides great terrain for glade skiing. To the east, Pinnacle Peak flows into a similar but more separated notch, which will allow all three peaks to be served by one integrated lift system.
HIKING: The Bulkhead is a 300 foot high vertical granite cliff which juts out on the south east side of Ragged Mountain. It is a seldom used but spectacular rock climbing destination known as the last place peregrine falcons nested in the Sunapee-Kearsarge region of New Hampshire.
Hiking on and around Ragged Mountain is extensive. Two notable routes are the three hour Bulkhead Trail accessed at the headwaters of Mitchell Brook by Proctor Academy in Andover and the 75 mile long Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge (SRK) Greenway which traverses the summit and subsidiary knobs of the
mountain. The SRK trailheads are at Proctor Academy on NH Route 11 in Andover and on New Canada Road in Danbury.
HYDROLOGY: The northern side of Ragged Mountain drains into the Smith River via Bog Brook. The other three sides drain into the Blackwater River, and both the Smith and Blackwater are within the Merrimack River watershed. Water virtually surrounds Ragged Mountain including Eagle Pond, Cold Pond, Hopkins Pond,
Elbow Pond, and Bog Pond as well as Bog Brook which provides the dramatic views as you enter the resort on Ragged Mountain Road and from the top of the mountain.

Our commitment to the environment in which we recreate
Ragged Mountain Resort is committed to preserving and enhancing the natural resources that are at the core of what makes Ragged Mountain such a special place. We have a long history of being good stewards of the land on which we operate, but we wanted to take another step to help improve our environment. In the spring of 2019, Ragged Mountain Resort and the other ski areas in the Pacific Group Resorts family created a company-wide Sustainability Program to foster environmentally sustainable business practices.
As part of our commitment to sustainable operating practices, we are taking meaningful steps in a number of areas to reduce our environmental impact such as:
1) New digital and interactive Trail Map on the new mobile app
2) Conversion to LED Lights
These efforts are a portion of our Sustainability Program, and you may see some of them highlighted around the resort with a graphic icon noting them as part of our Eco Values. Our Sustainability Committee, which is comprised of staff from a wide variety of departments, has researched these sustainability initiatives, and they have been implemented to make a positive difference. Recycling, changes in packaging, no-idling zones, more efficient lighting, the replacement of older less efficient snowmaking equipment, and new lower energy alternatives are a few examples.
Another component of our commitment to sustainable practices is our participation in the National Ski Areas Association’s Climate Challenge. Ragged Mountain and the other PGRI properties have joined the Climate Challenge which NSAA designed specifically for ski resorts to help them identify and measure areas where they can reduce their direct carbon footprint. It is an industry-wide initiative of which we are proud to be a member.
We recognize Ragged Mountain Resort is a very small part of a very large global issue. At the same time, we recognize no matter how big the challenge is, a good company should lead by example. We hope guests will join the Ragged Mountain team in making a positive impact while you are enjoying the spectacular outdoors.
